After trying meditation, journaling, walking and reading numerous books, I still don’t feel like I know my true self.
Getting in touch with our intuitive knowing can be a challenge that gets the best of us at times. Knowing whether you are in touch with your inner self is a combination of both hindsight and being present. At first, things happen and when we think back (hindsight) to just before they happened, we had an inkling of what was going to happen. I remember cutting my hand as I held a potato in one hand and a knife in the other. With blood pouring onto the towel my roommate was wrapping around my hand, I remarked, “I knew that was going to happen just before it did…and I didn’t stop.” That was a big AHA moment in my life. From that time on if I was aware of the inkling that something was about to happen, I took just a moment to check in and scan the area for a better way to approach the moment.
The “being present” part was a larger challenge…we have s
o many distractions and other things to focus on that it is easy to find ourselves multi-tasking and therefore less available to all that may be happening in the present moment. When this happens we can easily miss cues and nuances that might otherwise add to the information sources that our body/mind is using to determine the true path that is ours to take.
Usually when one gets in touch with their true self or inner knowing, there is a comfortable or intentional feeling in the body. The heart is calm and pumping strongly as if something additional were supporting it. Some people are clairaudient (hearing guidance), some clairvoyant (seeing what needs to be done), some are clairsentient (feeling the next step to take), and some are claircognizant (just knowing without knowing where it comes from)…. No matter how you ‘get it’, the journey to knowing who we are and our true self is worth the effort. Use the tools you have and keep asking the question “What is in my best and highest interest right now?” Then be patient as sometimes it can take a bit of time for the answer to be repeated enough to us that we take action. Action without forethought is re-action. There is weakness in reaction and strength in action.
