Body/Mind Healing Modality

One of the most important premises of Body/mind healing modalities is that the body does what the mind instructs.   This means that being conscious of what our mind is saying to our body will make a difference in our life results.   It also means that giving our mind positive instructions to give to the body will change our responses and therefore our creations on a physical, mental and emotional plane.

In reading Deepak Chopra’s newest book The Healing Self, I learned about Harvard psychologist, Professor Ellen Langer who has a track record for reversing the signs of aging and extending longevity WITHOUT drugs.  In fact, she bypasses the body altogether and goes directly to the mind.  Her most famous experiment was in 1981 where she took 8 men in their 70’s who were in good health but showing signs of age and bused them to a former monastery in New Hampshire.  When they entered, they found themselves immersed in the past (specifically the year 1959) listening to the crooning of Perry Como.  They dressed in clothes suitable for that year. They watched black and white TV, read newspapers filled with stories of Castro’s takeover in Cuba and the hostile attitude of Nikita Khrushchev, premier of the Soviet Union.  For a movie, they watched Preminger’s Anatomy of a Murder which came out in 1959 and sports talk focused on Mickey Mantle and Floyd Patterson.

As a control group, another 8 men lived as they normally would but were told to reminisce about the past.   The time-capsule environment group was told something very different – they were to act exactly as if it were 1959 and they were 22 years younger.  By any reasonable medical standard, the results of the pretend time travel should have been nil.  But Langer had done earlier studies at Yale with elderly residents of nursing homes and discovered signs of aging, particularly memory loss, could be reversed through the simplest of positive reinforcement.  Giving someone an incentive to remember, such as small rewards that depended on their test performance, brought back memory that everyone else had assumed was irreversible.

Even Langer didn’t expect the dramatic results of her total immersion experiment.  At the end of five days, the group that was immersed in the world of their younger selves showed improved flexibility, dexterity, and posture.  They also improved on seven of eight measure, including better vision, a startling finding.  They looked younger (assessed by outside judges).  These results were significantly better than the control group, who also showed improvements in some physical and mental areas through reminiscing about the past – for example, 63% of subjects in time-capsule immersion group scored higher on intelligence test as compared with 44 % of control group.

“What matters here is what actually happened,” Langer explains.  “Men who changed their perspective changed their bodies.”   This study from 37 years ago shows Professor Langer was proceeding more or less intuitively.   Now we have research that indicates how changing experiences can alter gene expression and train the brain to continue developing new pathways, as we do when we learn new things or change our perspective.

In 2010 BBC produced a TV series called The Young Ones mimicking Langer’s 1981 study and the participants seemed to get younger in front of our eyes.  One of the participants arrived barely able to bend over to put on shoes and by the end of the piece, he found new suppleness on the dance floor.  In general, everyone progressively began to look younger from posture to facial expressions.

In my practice, I have offered Immersion work for more than 25 years and observe that when clients are ready they can progress by leaps and bounds with Immersions of just a few days and sessions somewhere in the 8 to 12 number.  Getting a lot of anxiety, stress, and fear off the plate, allows the body/mind connections to release and reframe and literally change how we see our life experience and get us out of overwhelm. Wake up the body’s natural processing techniques with Energy healing with Rapid Eye and it will turn on the body’s natural stress release and reframe process of REM sleep eye movement, blinking and breathing.  We ALL have stress – it’s fast becoming the number one reason for illness and even death.

Energy Healing Techniques including Rapid Eye Therapy, Reiki, polarity, imagery, and self-care tools assist you in clearing out the closet of what no longer serves you, sharpening your focus and resolving old stuck thinking that recreates ‘same stuff, different day’ over and over.   Rapid Eye uses blinking, breathing and bilateral eye movement techniques to assist the body with processing its frightened parts.

Clear your stress, reawaken your natural REM sleep process (with RET) and live the life you desire.   This drug-free modality will assist you in your journey safely, quickly and naturally.  Processing your fear, pain, shame, and guilt will give you increased resilience to change, greater clarity and deeper insight.
